We've been editing

Hello Reader

Over the last few years we've been slowly refining what we carry at the workroom. Less of absolutely everything, more of what we love and truly use. Kona solids, Merchant & Mills, garment fabrics and key notions. We're also leaning into the flexibility of digital patterns, especially with the success of our new wide format print service.

This kind of editing is how we keep working to keep the shop sustainable and it means some good things need to find new homes.

We've just done a sweep and tagged everything we'd love to see land with someone who'll use it. Patterns, hardware, elastics and notions we won't be reordering, all 20% off right now. Quantities are limited so have a look.

Scroll to the bottom - I've shared a quick tip for using Swedish Tracing Paper and I've got a little poll for you too!

See all my Weekender Bag Sewers on Monday!

p.s. Just a reminder that our Parkdale Pick up is open today 11am-5pm for local pick up orders that have been notified. The Parkdale Pick Up point will be closed tomorrow Saturday March 28th. Check the weekly schedule or call before heading over!

PRE-ORDER : Tula Pink Hardware
Our Tula Pink Hardware Community Preorder is on the way! We love that so many of you will be getting some slick shiny tools to add to your sewing kit. I find the Swiss Tweezers are the perfect tool for fussing with getting my gathers just right (especially with the Merchant & Mills Florence) or when I'm threading my serger and need to grab the thread from a hard to reach spot. We ordered a few extra of everything in case you missed out and wanted to reserve any of these handy (& pretty) tools.

We added a few new items to the preorder that are in the same delivery - take a peek if there's anything you want added to your Tula Preorder & use code IFORGOT to pair them together.

SHOP KONA Yardage & Full Bolts
We've had some really fun orders recently for Kona Solids - complex quilt projects that require 30+ colours or customers who use so much of certain colours, they special order a full bolt or five. Did you know that you can special order a full bolt (ten - thirteen metres) of Kona for 20% off anytime in our online shop? Whether you need lots of small amounts of Kona or just lots of one colour we've got you covered with our full Kona rainbow. We've got a restock of Kona arriving today, so look out for some of our Solids bundles to pop up over the weekend.

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP : NOVA COAT
Spring is officially here (someone tell the Sprucedale Snow Banks) and you might want a cozy jacket for this in- between season. The Nova Coat is a fun and fascinating jacket to sew - the design is clever and also fully lined. Make a short version or a long version - use quilted Jacquard, wool or even linen. We've made so many of these cute jackets with you - take a peek at our Nova Coat photo album and get inspired for your version.

It's truly a fun adventure each week to see which fun pdf patterns are rolling off our wide format printer. Swedish Tracing Paper vs Wide Format Prints
I was tracing out my Merchant & Mills Nevis Skirt pattern onto Swedish Tracing Paper for the recent Handmade Wardrobe Essentials workshop and thinking about why I like this part of the process. It's definitely an investment in time but these days, I generally try to make patterns that I'll repeat more than once. As I trace, I get to know the pattern shapes, the notches and all the pieces that make up the pattern. It gets me thinking about how they will all come together and how I might lay them out on my fabric or possibly customize the garment. I also like how easily these soft, traced pieces fold up into the manilla envelopes that I store my patterns in an how easily I can iron them the next time I take them out. One trick I shared with my class on Tuesday. Once you trace, just rough cut your pattern pieces out and save the precision cut for when you cut your fabric. This way you are getting a more accurate cut on your fabric & cutting the traced copy perfectly at the same time.

That said - I love the convenience of printing an A0 print out of a pattern in a pinch and cutting it out when time is short. (I would never cut my original paper pattern version though - I'm just weird like that).
