Sending Colour, Care & Community Your Way

Hello Reader,

Did you get a fun package from the workroom this week?!

We loaded up the car and drove down to Toronto (yes - during that Sunday snowstorm) to do a big round of bulk shipping for our final Kona Colour Society bundles, Merchant & Mills preorders, and local A0 pattern pickups headed to Parkdale. By the end of this week, we’ve shipped well over a hundred packages, which is no small feat for our tiny team and it felt really good to send so many soft, colourful supplies out into the world right now. I hope opening yours brings a little moment of joy.

Coming off our recent Esme Cardigan workshop, I’ve been reflecting a lot on how we make, not just what we make. Watching everyone interpret the same pattern so differently - through fabric choice, length adjustments, sleeve details, lining, and seam binding was such a powerful reminder of how personal sewing can & should be. Each cardigan felt completely its own, and those individual choices enriched the experience for the entire group. That kind of shared learning, where we’re inspired by one another as much as by the pattern, is at the heart of our workshop philosophy: making with meaning as we build our handmade wardrobes.

That same approach is guiding everything we’re working on right now, including a refreshed version of Sewing Machine Essentials, launching soon. Current members and those who’ve already joined will receive first access when it opens. And if you’ve been thinking about starting from the beginning or giving your machine skills a refresh, now is a great time to jump in - before the new version launches and the price increases.

Before I sign off, I want to acknowledge the heaviness many are feeling right now with the state of affairs in the U.S. and truly around the globe, and today’s call for collective action and strike. We stand in solidarity with those seeking safety, dignity, and care. the workroom remains a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone, and we’re committed to creating community rooted in respect, empathy, and belonging.

Making can be a form of action. It’s a way to care for ourselves and one another, to stay grounded, and to imagine something better.

We’re grateful to hold space for that with you.
Karyn

MERCHANT & MILLS JACQUARD YARDAGE
We’re down to the final yardage of our beautiful Merchant & Mills jacquards, with Dauphine Pink and Laine Mustard still available for your next cozy make. These fabrics are substantial and richly textured, perfect for garments that shine in their simplicity.

If you’re wondering what to make, this jacquard pairs especially well with patterns like the Merchant & Mills Sanda Jacket or Sidney Sweatshirt, as well as the Marlo Sweater - all patterns we’re planning workshops around this year. Don’t forget the Nova Coat and the Esme Cardigan either, we’ve already seen some gorgeous jacquard versions come out of recent workshops.

What would you make with this jacquard?
