Pixel quilts, Swedish Tracing Paper & the Esme Cardigan
Published about 8 hours ago • 3 min read
Hello Reader
There are so many things I love about Swedish Tracing Paper. The way it irons smooth after being folded up, the feel of a pencil moving across it as you trace. On our Weekender Bag Sew Along Zoom, I also shared a tip: fold it in half to trace "cut on the fold" pattern pieces and you've got a full-width piece in one step.
This weekend we're packing up and shipping about 65 rolls of Swedish Tracing Paper and it's going to be a challenge wrapping up these odd shapes. Think a roll of Swedish Tracing Paper + a book or a few metres of batting. Watch your mailbox for some custom handmade packaging. This is why I save so much of the shipping materials from our deliveries.
Thank you to everyone who answered our poll last week. I was actually surprised that so many of you were 'tracers'. If you scroll to the bottom of today's note, you'll find a new poll & a sneak peek of our next Sew Along!
The Results From Last Week's Poll
Happy Long Weekend! Karyn
p.s. We're open today (Friday) in Sprucedale, 11am-3pm & tomorrow - Saturday 11am-3pm if you're up the area for the holiday. Plus! I'll see my Structured Sweatshirt students tomorrow morning on Zoom - 9am-11am.
Tula Pink Hardware : Here & Gone Our Tula Pink Hardware Community Preorder arrived a couple days early, so we've been packing up lots of fun sets of tools that should land with you soon. We definitely underestimated how many extras to pop into our order, but you can set an email alert for the ones you want, we are already planning our next order for you.
SHOP our Curated KONA Bundles We were able to cut some of our Kona Bundles that we haven't seen on the shelf for a little while. Unicorn Sunset, Woodland & Wildflowers, Joyce's Caribou, Gradients, Coral Reef and Petit Fours are here to inspire you with their pretty colours and fun names.
VIRTUAL WORKSHOP : ESME CARDIGAN I live in my four versions of the Esme Cardigan. Two knit, two jacquard, and I'm already thinking about a wool one next. It's a great workshop whether you want to sew with knits or wovens, and the customization options we've added mean you can make something truly unique and cozy that you'll never want to take off.
Weekender Bag Community Sew Along We finally got started with our Merchant & Mills Weekender Bags on Monday. We had a full house on Zoom to meet each other, chat about our ideas for our bags and reviewed the pattern and first steps. Since most of us are using the Dry Oilskin project kits we also talked about the rules for this special fabric - no iron, a slightly longer stitch length, no pins (only within the seam allowance) and alternate marking tools. Our homework is to get our fabric cut out and ready to sew for our next Zoom on Monday April 13th. We've got one final project kit left + a couple Sand Hardware Kits, if you want to join in. The first session's replay and notes are posted in the online community space for the Sew Along. The more the merrier!
Sneak Peek : Our next Community Sew Along I've been working on a few really fun things behind the scenes that I'm getting closer to sharing. As part of my 'research', I've been down a bit of a rabbit hole on Pixel Quilts.
I always loved the look of these graphic quilts that are simply made up of squares. I've been eyeing the Tilda Flower quilts for a while (they are free patterns!) and I'm ready to move it to the top of my sewing queue.
The energy of our current Community Sew Along has got me inspired. Want to sew this with me?
We'll be putting together a complete kit to make it really simple to get set up for this project. AND I've also mapped out a much more efficient & quick way to sew this pattern. Want in? Want in? Reply below and you'll be first to know when we launch.
