Our Handmade Getaway crew (minus Andrea) wearing many handmade garments
Hello Reader
We had such a special weekend with our last Handmade Getaway group until Fall. I was so grateful to have a weekend in Sprucedale with so many of our Handmade Getaway 'regulars'. The amount of sewing they got done over the four days was inspiring and very fun to watch as their finished piles grew each day with quilts, accessories, and lots of handmade garments. They even organized their own skill share evening workshop to learn flower smocking! We love to provide you with the space, time, assistance and tools to just focus on sewing without distractions - except for the good kind like - the snack table and fabric deliveries in the shop, of course.
Our next Handmade Getaway will be posted shortly for Labour Day weekend. Can you think of a better way to enjoy the extra long weekend? Spots are limited and we'll give first dibs to our community members before we open it up to you on the newsletter list.
We also just posted theFall Community Sew Along & our July Challenge for Repurposing last night and we're excited to continue our expanding virtual community events. We'll be making the Chore Jacket from the Merchant & Mills Workwear book. Seeing how everyone has been collaborating and sharing in the Weekender Bag project and the current Flower Branch Sew Along - this is another big project that will be really fun to expand your skills and share progress with our maker community.
Merchant & Mills : Orders are cut & shipping It's taken all week to get through cutting all the Merchant & Mills preorders. Today we'll start packing up the boxes for you. While she was here last weekend, Alexis added Mettler Colour match options to all the new fabrics including a few multicoloured selections for fabrics like the Festival & Sea Holly linens.
Community Sew Along : Workwear Chore Jacket We're ready to officially welcome you into the Fall Community Sew Along for the Merchant & Mills Workwear Chore Jacket. This Sew Along will meet six times over a few months giving lots of time to work through this project over the Fall. Start planning your fabric & button choices now!
Add a copy of the Workwear book + the Community Sew Along to your cart and you'll automatically get a discount.

A Community Quilt for Santosha Last summer we hosted a weeklong workshop with Sherri Lynn Wood. During dinner one night, the group was inspired by the colourful zinnias on the table and came up with the idea to create a Kona colour palette inspired by them and then to turn those colours into an improv community quilt with block contributions from everyone. Our retreat partners - Santosha Farms - Rob & Julia put so much care into hosting and creating incredible meals for us. We are so lucky to partner with them to be able to create these special experiences for you.
This incredible group project has been in the works for almost a year and was finally completed on the workroom's longarm this weekend and presented to Rob & Julia at our final dinner on the weekend. I'll post a detailed album of photos of this epic project but I couldn't not share this special project reveal with you right away. Community members Fay & Roxanne put in many extra hours assembling the quilt top and backing with details that are so thoughtful and creative. Have you ever seen a more joyful quilt?!
Roxanne recreated the view from the Santosha porch
THE BUTTON DEPT. : Metal Buttons We had a request for metal buttons during the Handmade Getaway and we don't have many in our vast button collection, but we did find a few stashed in one of our boxes. These seem particularly great for any of the projects from the Workwear book, so we've posted them in the online shop for you!
