Dear Universe - Let's make some scissors

Hello Reader!

If you've been following along my DEAR UNIVERSE series on Instagram - I've been sharing big, little and over the top goals for the workroom as we approach our nineteenth anniversary on October 13th. Everything from finding a cool, creative business neighbour to buy the old Sprucedale Hotel across the street to hosting an outdoor Quilt Show, planning a flower & dye garden and hanging our vintage Church Globe Lights from our original shop location above the General Store Counter.

The fun thing about saying all these things out loud is that I've been able to share more about the history of the workroom - like how did we end up in Sprucedale and where did the button dept. come from? I've also been able to get 'unstuck' with a few things on my list by sharing them in the light of day and getting your feedback on them.

A big project that I'm now moving forward thanks to your support is the workroom scissors. I've wanted to do a line of workroom branded tools and notions starting with metal shears and I think this is something we can move forward with as a community preorder. I looked into this about fifteen years ago, but never had the resources to make it happen. The wheels are now in motion - I'm just getting updated pricing and packaging options before we launch this project. I'm so thrilled that folks are excited by the idea of workroom tools. We've started a special waitlist for this project - to make sure we can keep you in the loop if you want to support this project and give you first access (and a special deal) Click here to join the waitlist

Thank you Universe! (aka the workroom community)
Karyn

p.s. In the next video I'll be talking about a new online colour palette tool I've been building this year. You can get a sneak peek below!

CREATE YOUR OWN COLOUR PALETTES
If you love our curated Kona bundles, but want to create your own I've been building something just for you! This online tool will give you a jump start into creating a perfect colour story based on any image or screenshot you're inspired by.

Here are the key features of the Kona Colour Society tool -

  • Extract a palette from any uploaded photo, or click directly on the photo to pick one exact pixel as an anchor colour and build the rest of the palette around it
  • Choose how many colours are in your custom palette with a slider, from 3 to 20
  • Swap any single colour, with filters for similar, same family, lighter, or darker alternatives
  • Curate mode: see the wider pool of near-matches from the Kona collection and pick your own
  • Skip the photo and build by hand from the "Browse Kona library" tab, searching and filtering by colour family
  • Name your palette, save it, reload or delete it later from your running browser history (not currently permanent)
  • See live "in-stock" status per colour, checked against the workroom's online shop.
  • Get matched automatically to our existing curated bundles that overlap your palette, each linking directly to those bundles
  • Shop your whole palette: set the quantities per colour, get swap-to-in-stock suggestions for anything sold out, and add every colour to your cart with one click
  • Download an image of the palette (photo crop plus the swatch list with names and hex codes baked in), or copy a link that rebuilds the exact palette for whoever opens it, or send it by text to a friend.

Take me to the Kona Colour Society Tool!

Try it out and let me know what you think. I'm still tweaking some features but I hope you have fun with it.

NEW! KONA SOLIDS BUNDLES

It's been a while since we added a new bundle to the roster and this week both Alexis & I were inspired to create a new stack. Say hello to Anemone & Autumn Bride. We both used the Kona Colour Society Tool to give us a list of colours to match our inspiration photos. We swapped out a couple colours and stacked up these bolts. What do you think?

There's another small delivery of Kona heading our way next week which means we'll be building more bundles.
